Tired of dull tiles or taps or weak water flow?

Bring a sparkle to your life by getting rid of that limescale coating that covers everything in the UK

What is limescale and Why.

Limescale is the white hard chalky deposit, consisting mainly of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), a coating that is left behind after water has dried.  We have a lot of chalky soil in the UK which partly dissolves in water and makes it hard.

Can you avoid getting limescale?

Yes, by keeping things dry! But this is impossible in the bathroom and kitchen or inside the kettle.

or by getting a water softener or scale remover installed on the water supply. Here here are some examples

or Use a towel or dry cloth to dry  tiles/taps/sinks/ baths  immediately after use

or use a squeegee to remove excess water from tiles and shower screens immediately after showering

here is a nice one

But for us that do not have an obsessive drying and cleaning urge every time we step out of the shower, here is........

How to remove Limescale once it formed

  1. Rub lemon juice or Spray diluted vinegar or shop-bought spray-on limescale remover on the surface you want to clean.

  2.  Leave it on to chew away the limescale for a while and then rinse off.
  3. Shine it with a dry cloth if you want or let it air dry,

Repeat the 3 steps if it's still there and then spray, rinse and repeat weekly.

There are limescale removers for all sorts of appliances like irons, washing machines, kettles, walls,  taps, and toilets and mirrors  Have a look at this link.

Our favorite product is Viakal which smells lovely and cleans well. Around £2 per bottle in the shops or have a look at amazon for a bulk buy.

Another few tips

  •  Taps sometimes get clogged with limescale. Fill a plastic bag with diluted vinegar and tie it around the mouth of the tap so the limescale can dissolve. Leave on for as long as needed or we even found his cheap gadget to get the taps clean. look at the  link
  • Shower screens and tiles get dull and opaque so spray leave,  rinse and repeat,  weekly.
  • Taps and sinks get dull and mucky.  Spray, leave,  rinse and repeat, weekly
  • Kettles get limescale in as well. Add a few teaspoons of vinegar to the water and let it stand for 20 minutes or longer. Rinse well before making your first cuppa.

Removing the limescale make taps and shower seals last  longer as they don't get hard to move and then break

Have fun
